RMU Falls to Long Island in NEC Championship

The overtime loss ends RMU's two-year reign as NEC Champions.

The came short in their bid for a third-consecutive Northeast Conference Championship last night, falling to Long Island University 85-82 in a close, overtime contest.

The teams were never separated by more than 8 points during the game, with the Colonials overcoming a large deficit in the final minutes of regulation to force overtime.

For the Colonials, the loss ends their two-year reign as NEC champions, a stretch that included eight-straight tournament victories, as well as an opportunity to make another appearance in the NCAA March Madness tournament.

The automatic bid that is awarded to the NEC champion will now go to the Blackbirds of Long Island, who will make their first appearance in March Madness since 1997.
