Nearly 100 Candidates Seek Open Montour Athletic Director Job

Long-time Spartans athletic director Mitch Galiyas retired at the end of June.

Montour School District has received 81 applications to replace its long-time athletic director who retired last month.Β 

Mitch Galiyas retired in JuneΒ as the longest full-timeΒ athletic director in the history of the Montour School District.

Bill Addy, human relations manager, told the school board last month that the largeΒ pool ofΒ candidates seeking to replace Galiyas is also "rather diverse."

Addy saidΒ it will take time to interview the applicantsΒ and narrow down the finalists.Β School officials would likeΒ to name a new athletic director soon.

GaliyasΒ worked for 38 years in the district, spendingΒ nearly two decades of his tenureΒ coaching SpartansΒ football and 12Β years coaching volleyball.

Addy said officials want to workΒ asΒ expeditiously as possible to fill the position, but theyΒ also want to do their due diligence to make sure they hire theΒ right candidateΒ for the job.Β Β 

"That's our goal," he said.Β Β
