Tuskegee Airmen Exhibit Set to be Unveiled

An exhibit recognizingΒ theΒ Tuskegee AirmenΒ is set to be unveiledΒ this weekΒ at the Pittsburgh International Airport.Β 

The unveiling isΒ part of the events leading up toΒ Sunday's memorial dedication in the Sewickley Cemetery.Β 

AlleghenyΒ County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, members of the Tuskegee Airmen Memorial of the Greater Pittsburgh Region, Inc. and federal, state and local officialsΒ are expected to attendΒ the unveiling Thursday of theΒ Recognition Exhibit.

The exhibit, the largestΒ TuskegeeΒ Airmen Recognition Exhibit in any United StatesΒ airport,Β celebrates the Greater PittsburghΒ Tuskegee AirmenΒ legacy and the history of Western Pennsylvania’s first black military aviators.

On Sunday, Sept. 15, theΒ dedication of theΒ TuskegeeΒ Airmen Memorial will take place in theΒ Sewickley Cemetery. A large contingent of Tuskegee Airmen were from Sewickley andΒ the memorial is set to be the largest outdoor memorial forΒ TuskegeeΒ Airmen in the country.

Cemetery gates will be closed toΒ vehicleΒ traffic on Sunday and aΒ shuttle bus service will be available for those interested in attending the dedication.Β
