Bites Nearby: T&C's Steaks and Subs

T&C’s Steaks and Subs has been open for nine years in the Beth Bath Pike strip mall on Route 512. Now that it’s under the control of husband-and-wife team Mike and Diane Heck, they’re changing things up a bit. But not too much.

“We’ve only changed the pizza,” said Mike Heck, about the menu. “We didn’t want to make too many changes, since it was a well-established business.”

They also decided to stay open on Sundays, the only day the previous owner was closed. But what the Hecks are changing most is the service they bring to their customers.

“We try to treat everyone that comes in like family,” said Diane Heck of the business located at 7596 Beth Bath Pike in Bath.

The Hecks, residents of Forks Township, recognized that T&C’s had a strong local following and a foundation of regular customers when they bought it just over a year ago. As friends of the owners of Richard’s Drive-In in Forks Township and Antonio’s Pizza in Easton, the Hecks have seen what good food and good service can bring.

The most popular items are hoagies and cheesesteaks, and for good reason. A T&C’s cheesesteak subscribes to the “simple is best” policy; cheese, sauce and onions topped with pickles. The chipped beef is tender and lean, and unlike most cheesesteaks, not at all greasy.

One of the best-sellers is the “six-pack special,” which is three cheesesteaks and three orders of fries for $15.99.

“Basically, you’re paying for the cheesesteaks and getting the fries for free,” Mike said.

Pizza is another popular item at the corner restaurant—a large pie goes for only $6.99. Also on the menu are a variety of unique gourmet pizzas: Hawaiian pizza is topped with ham and pineapple; German pizza features steak meat, onions, and a choice of peppers; and perhaps most notably novel, the Shrimp Scampi pizza, which is topped with shrimp, garlic and mozzarella.

Lunch specials are available every day of the week. On weekends, pizza is only 99 a slice. Tuesday night is all-you-can-eat spaghetti and meatballs.

T&C’s offers quite a large menu for a small place, including strombolis and Italian dinners, platters, hot and cold sandwiches, and plenty of deep-fried goodness. The restaurant does most of its business as take-out, but also has eight booths for patrons to sit and enjoy a meal.

All produce and supplies come in locally. The rolls come fresh from Philip Malone & Sons in Allentown. Leftover rolls don’t get rolled over; instead they go to a homeless shelter in Easton.

Despite the recent increases in the price of beef, cheese, and other goods, T&C’s prices aren’t going up. The Hecks spend a lot of time searching the Valley for the best deals.

“We do whatever we can to keep from raising our prices,” Diane said.

The Hecks consider their business family-operated. Their son Mike, a local college student, works at the restaurant, and their youngest daughter lends a hand when she can.

“Our 10-year-old daughter likes to waitress,” joked Diane. 

T&C’s delivers as far as Moore Township and parts of Nazareth, although Mike is willing to go the extra mile for his customers.

The business offers Pepsi products, and homemade bottled root beer, which tastes remarkably close to Stewart’s.

T&C’s Steaks and Subs is open seven days a week, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Gift certificates are available to purchase. T&C’s offers eat-in or take-out options, as well as delivery and call-ahead orders.
