Do You Enjoy the Outdoors? The Hawk Mountain Sanctuary Makes for a Great Day Trip
If you are the outdoorsy type who likes to hike, Hawk Mountain Sanctuary in Kempton makes for a great day trip destination - and the photo ops abound!
It was a warm, beautiful cloudless day, a great day for a day trip to Hawk Mountain in Kempton. Though my family and I didn't see many hawks this time around, there was still a lot of breath-taking sights to see and plenty of photo ops to keep us busy.Β Even Kayleb, my son who is four and a half, had a great time!
It took us slightly over an hour to drive to Kempton from the Nazareth area, and the drive was really quite simple to navigate.
The Hawk Mountain Sanctuary is a neat place to visit and has a variety of trails and lookouts -- including the most popular, North Lookout. This particular trail was pretty rocky -- you won't want to wear flip flops or sandals on this trip -- and a bit challenging at times, but the hike is well worth it. If you bring a younger child, like we did, you will need to help them along.

As you make your way to the lookout, it's likely you will encounter some form of wildlife along the way -- wether it be the local croaking frog or a scampering chipmunk. Β These sightings are nice to see especially with kids, because their eyes eyes light up every time they see something.
If you get the chance to take a day trip -- and enjoy hiking -- this is definitely a destination to visit. With a small trail fee of $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 6 to 12, you are also helping support and maintain the Hawk Mountain Sanctuary.
