McDonald's Receipt Led Police to Alleged Burglars

A McDonald’s receipt found at the site of a home burglary helped lead police to a Moore Township man accused of selling methamphetamine to a confidential source as well as participating in the burglary with his apparent neighbor, according to court records.

Eric Danbar, 42, sold a quantity of methamphetamine to the source Nov. 28 at Danbar’s home at 265 Monocacy Drive (Route 987), court records say. Danbar told the informant he bought the methamphetamine for $34,000.

It’s not clear in the records how much of the drug the informant allegedly bought from Danbar.

The records also say Danbar had a quantity of cocaine and a Remington 760 .30-06 rifle. He is not allowed to have firearms because of a previous conviction for aggravated assault.

Meanwhile, 10 days after the alleged drug sale, Danbar and another man allegedly burglarized a home on Mountain Road in the northern part of the township.

It was here that police say they found the McDonald’s receipt. They later obtained restaurant video that allegedly showed the men going through the drive-thru in a pickup truck.

The township’s deputy police chief later spotted the truck at the Monocacy Drive home, leading to the arrest of the other man and the eventual arrest of Danbar.

The other man, Greg Vosper, 24, was the subject of a warrant for a disorderly conduct charge in Pen Argyl. He was booked in that case and released on bail.

Vosper’s address is listed as 267 Monocacy Drive, which would make him Danbar’s neighbor.

Police filed a criminal complaint against Vosper on Jan. 23 in the home burglary case but he has yet to be arraigned. The status of the case is listed as “inactive.”

While talking to police about the alleged home burglary, Vosper said “everyone was talking about the cops being there,” meaning the Mountain Road home. He also said Danbar told him, “We shouldn’t have done that.”

In the drug case, a criminal complaint says Danbar sold the methamphetamine to the source Nov. 28, a Wednesday, at Danbar’s house.

Police served a search warrant at the house Jan. 11, a Friday, and seized packages containing methamphetamine and cocaine as well as packaging items for drugs, according to court records. Also seized was the Remington rifle.

The complaint was filed by Easton police inspector Salvatore Crisafulli as a member of the Northampton County Drug Task Force.

The complaint for the alleged home burglary, filed by Moore Township Det. Jason Gianatiempo, includes the following:

—Police were dispatched to the Mountain Road home just before midnight Dec. 8, a Saturday, for an activated burglar alarm. They found a broken window inside an enclosed porch.

—They also found the McDonald’s receipt. It was from the restaurant on Route 512 in Plainfield Township just outside Wind Gap. The time on it was 11:04 a.m. that day. The receipt was dry, and it was raining when they arrived.

—Surveillance video showed the suspects were in a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup with an extended cab. It was white with black on the bottom, appeared to have red writing on the top of the windshield and had a wooden rack in the bed.

—Township Deputy Chief James Cavallo later found the truck parked in front of Danbar’s home. Police first spoke to Vosper, who was taking items out of the truck bed. They later spoke to Danbar -- identified as the truck’s owner.

—Police asked Danbar to come to the police station, but Danbar said he was unable to. Gianatiempo asked him to call and set up a time to meet.

—A records check revealed the outstanding warrant against Vosper, and police took him into custody.

—Vosper told police he and Danbar entered the enclosed porch and that Vosper opened an unlocked window. He said he peeked his head inside and an alarm went off. He said the window came down and “broke on him” but that he was not cut.

—Vosper said he and Danbar left when the alarm went off. He said they got nothing from the house and simply went home.

—The home’s owner told police an estimate for fixing the window came to $726.89, which included having to replace the frame as well as the glass.

In the drug case, Danbar is charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver—methamphetamine, and one count each of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver—cocaine, persons not to possess firearms and possession of drug paraphernalia.

In the burglary case, Danbar is charged with two counts of burglary and one count each of criminal trespass and loitering and prowling at night. Vosper faces the same charges, in addition to criminal mischief.

He was arraigned Friday night by on-duty District Judge Robert Hawke of Lehigh Township and committed to Northampton County Prison on $55,000 bail in the drug case and $45,000 in the burglary case.
