Nazareth Part-Time Police Candidate Applications Rising

The number of part-time police applications has doubled, Nazareth Mayor Carl Strye Jr. said recently.

That Help Wanted notice seeking part-time police candidates for Nazareth has really paid off.

After the notice went out in late June seeking part-time police candidates now that the Nazareth Police Department would remain, Mayor Carl Strye Jr. said he is pleased by the numbers.

"The applications have doubled for part-time police help," Strye stated at Thursday night's Borough Council worksession meeting.

Council President Dan Chiavaroli said Thursday night that he was forming a hiring committee now that Police Chief Thomas Trachta has reviewed some of the applications.

Chiavaroli will be joined on the hiring committee by secretary/treasurer Paul Kokolus and Councilmen Carl Fischl and Charles Donello, both members of the Police Committee.

Strye and the Police Committee has discussed getting two part-time police officers on board as soon as possible.

The mayor said that special meetings may be needed to move the process along faster instead of waiting every 30 days for the next council meeting.
