Performance to Feature Musical Spoons and Washboards

Award-winning singer-songwriter Daria Marmaluk-Hajioannou, who simply goes by Daria, is coming to Nazareth this Friday and has invited members of the public to “.”

The internationally known musician, who hails from nearby Springtown in Bucks County, will take the stage at Pleasure Garden from 7-8pm. The family-friendly event is free and open to the public for all ages.

Daria has performed and traveled throughout her life, entertaining audiences for nearly 20 years at festivals and in venues around the world. Her repertoire includes folk songs, bilingual songs and original pieces.

She often "performs" for children and family audiences, which means her performances are rather interactive.

“It’s much less of a performer thing, and more of a ‘let’s make music together’ kind of thing,” according to Daria.

Audience members are always invited to sing along and try their hand at the unique instruments Daria brings with her.

Her array of “old timey” instruments includes spoons and washboards, in addition to an acoustic guitar. She also brings an Appalachian dulcimer and a chajchas, a goat toenail rattle from Peru.

According to Daria, the show will include some tunes specifically for the residents of Moravian Hall Square.

“When I play for seniors, I try to play more music that they’ll remember from their childhood, songs from the '20s and '30s,” Daria explained. “I [also] try to bring out a few songs that come from their heritage.”

Moravian Hall Square is at 175 W. North St. in Nazareth.
