Keeping expired or unused medicine can be dangerous.
βPeople can mistake one medication for another, especially if the names of the medications are close,β said Vicky Kistler, director of the Allentown Health Bureau. Having excess medications stored in homes βalso can provide the opportunity for curious youths to experiment with dangerous drugs with serious consequences,β she added.
In the five previous Take-Back events, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in conjunction with state, local and tribal law enforcement partners have removed more than 2 million poundsβor 1,018 tonsβfrom circulation.
