The Cherry Hill Hotel Reopens in Bushkill Township

The 1862 building has new owners, a new look and a new menu.

The Cherry Hill Hotel restaurant reopened last week under new management. The eatery, at 442 Bushkill Center Road in Bushkill Township, had been closed for more than a year.

On Tuesday, Aug. 16, Kyle Kostenbader and his wife, Gail Bruch, welcomed guests to a full menu for lunch and dinner.

"We spent two months renovating and redecorating the place," said Kostenbader. "We did lots of improvements--carpeting, floors, booths."

The new Cherry Hill Hotel is a family-style restaurant, informal by design, with all new decor, bar, booths and a separate dining room.

The intimate dining room seats about 20. It can serve club meetings and other gatherings. The walls are lined with framed black-and-white photographs supplied by Darrell Mengel. Mengel serves on the committee of , a philanthropic organization serving area residents in need.

The photos display local history, including the Cherry Hill Hotel as it originally looked. Built in 1862, the structure had three stories with rooms for rent on the third floor. A fire destroyed the top of the building, and today there are only two stories.

Another couple of photographs show the panel truck of Kostenbader's grandfather that was used to deliver milk to customers. Emblazoned across it are the words "Guernsey Milk" and "T.D. Kostenbader & Son." Other photos show Nazareth area historical scenes and buildings.

Meanwhile, the restaurant is preparing to serve alcohol. "We expect to get the liquor license within 30 days," Kostenbader said.

Until that happens, guests can bring their own bottles to enjoy with a wide range of dishes, including pasta, chicken, beef, pork and seafood. Diners can start with scallops, mushrooms, potato skins, wings and other goodies.

For those in a hurry, takeout is available with a wide range of sandwiches, salads and sides. There is a special menu for the kids.

The Cherry Hill Hotel is open every day except Monday, 11am to late in the evening. Call 610-365-8153 to order takeout or make reservations.
