NEW HOPE, PA — A landscape painting by a well-known Bucks County artist is now hanging at The Birches at New Hope, a donation from Patrick Walsh and his wife, Elaine Gibbs.
Walsh, whose work is held in the collections of Doylestown Hospital, Delaware Valley University, and numerous other private and public institutions, donated the acrylic on canvas titled "American Farm V," depicting Winding Brook Farm in Warrington.
"American Farm V" is part of a series Walsh painted in the 1990s, as farmland in the area was increasingly bought up for other commercial uses. "Farms are important to me and to the community. At the time, farming was changing. The farmland was slowly disappearing," he said.
The painting was created from photos and Walsh's personal sketches. "Photos are a great medium. I use them for several of my paintings, but I'm not a photorealist. I make my paintings personal by changing colors and shadows," he said.
It took approximately four months to complete and has since been featured in several shows.
The couple, who own a home in New Hope, are exploring The Birches as a future living arrangement.
"The Birches at New Hope is a beautiful place," Walsh said. "It makes me happy that its residents will enjoy it."
He and Gibbs presented the painting to The Birches at New Hope's Executive Director, Justin Mason. In receiving the piece, Mason expressed his appreciation:
"We are delighted to accept and showcase this beautiful piece of art. New Hope has long enjoyed a reputation as a historic and vibrant hub for the visual and performing arts. We are so thankful that Patrick and Elaine thought of us as a permanent home for one of his works. Our residents, staff, and families will enjoy it for years to come."
