NEW HOPE, PA — When it steps off from the Parry Mansion on South Main Street on Oct. 24, the New Hope Historical Society's Annual Fall Foliage Walking Tour will include some of the most historic and picturesque settings in Bucks County.
Led by society historian Roy Ziegler, the 1 p.m. tour will begin on the environmental conservation trail around the Parry Mansion at 45 S. Main Street in New Hope. Close-up views along the Aquetong Creek will offer glimpses of foliage along both sides of the historic waterway. And tour participants will discover what industries thrived there two centuries ago.
The tour continues along the picturesque Delaware Canal Towpath where participants will hear about its century-long transportation history. They will see the splendid vista of Manchester Valley, once the location of New Hope's largest mills, resplendent with autumn colors from the backyard of the Wedgwood Inn.
Rounding out the tour, participants will be given a rare glimpse of the 1740s Paxson/Rhoads Homestead, taking visitors through Maple Grove, back to when part of George Washington's army encamped there before the historic crossing of the Delaware River.
The tour concludes with a stroll under a lush canopy of trees in the Chestnut-Buttonwood neighborhood.
Reservations are required. The tour is free to New Hope Historical Society members. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at newhopehistorical.org.
All proceeds benefit the work of the New Hope Historical Society.
