SOLEBURY TOWNSHIP, PA — Solebury School will formally install Patricia C.A. Sasser as its ninth head of school during a ceremony on Friday at the school.
Sasser is the school's first African American leader since its 1925 founding. The ceremony comes as the school enters its second century. More than 400 students, faculty, families, alumni, and guests, including State Rep. Tim Brennan, are expected to attend.
Sasser grew up in Washington, D.C., raised by a Foreign Service mother and a Nigerian father, and spent parts of her childhood in Nigeria, Haiti, and Niger. Before entering education, she was an Emmy-winning associate producer at ESPN. She has spent 20 years in independent school education, holding leadership roles at Saint Mary's School, Ransom Everglades School, Loomis Chaffee, and The Madeira School.
Sasser is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and the Junior League of Greater Princeton. She also serves on the One Schoolhouse board and the George Washington University Alumni Council.
"Solebury is such a special place," Sasser said. "From the moment that I stepped on campus, I knew it was where I was meant to be. It's a school that so completely aligns with my own values and places students at the center. Students and adults alike get to show up every day as their true selves in a place where everyone belongs. I am excited to get to know everyone and work alongside Solebury adults who are dedicated to supporting their students and each other."
Sasser brings 19 years of experience in independent schools to her new role. Most recently, she served as the Assistant Head of School for Academic Affairs at Saint Mary's School in Raleigh, North Carolina. Her previous positions include Head of the Upper School at Ransom Everglades School in Miami, Florida, and Dean of Students at The Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, Connecticut. Sasser began her career in independent schools at The Madeira School in McLean, Virginia, where she worked as a Major Gifts Officer, Assistant Dean of Student Activities, and Director of Residential Life.
