All-Kids Cast To Perform 'Treasure Island' At Newtown Theatre

Newtown Arts Company’s 2016 season will premiere with “Treasure Island,” this year’s Classics for Kids selection.

“Robert Louis Stevenson’s original enduring pirate adventure will be brought to life at the Newtown Theatre by an all-kids cast, for two matinee performances on March 12, at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.,” Newtown Arts Company said in an event announcement.

About 30 boys and girls make up the cast of “Treasure Island,” which is produced by Lisa Reiser of Langhorne. Bobby Reiser of Langhorne is stage manager.

Souvenir pirate eye patches will be given to the first 120 children who purchase or reserve tickets.

Treasure Island tells the tale of young Jim Hawkins, Dr. Livesay, Squire Trelawney, Captain Smollet and their faithful party’s race to find legendary Captain Flint’s buried treasure. Hot on their heels is Long John Silver and his infamous band of pirates and thieves, as well as a host of other notorious and colorful characters. Is the treasure map that Jim finds real?

Written and adapted for stage by Director Jim Banar, the script remains true to Stevenson’s original classical language, but is adapted for a younger cast. This classic pirate story will use basic costume elements with embellishments to define specific characters. Treasure Island is a fun family show, suitable for all ages - an ideal production to introduce even the youngest children to the exciting world of theater. The performance will run just under an hour.

The Newtown Theatre is located at 120 North State Street, Newtown.
