NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — Newtown Township Police Corporal Nicholas Ciambrello has graduated from the Philadelphia Highway Patrol Wheel (Motorcycle) School.

The demanding 80-hour police motorcycle operation course challenges officers mentally and physically in the safe operation of a police motorcycle under stressful conditions, including slow cone maneuvers, high-speed riding, and defensive driving techniques.

In addition to patrol, the Newtown Motorcycle Unit has been tasked with dignitary escorts, fallen officer and firefighter escorts, special events, and community events.

The “Highway Patrol Wings,” which are issued and worn on uniforms by officers who are officially trained and pass the rigorous course, are heavier than they look. They exemplify and stand for the tradition and discipline of being part of the Highway Patrol Unit.

"Nick’s hard work and dedication continue the tradition of making the Newtown Police Department one of the premier agencies in Bucks County," said Chief John Hearn. "The Newtown Police Department also congratulates supervisors and officers from the Bensalem, Warrington, Easttown police departments, along with members of the Philadelphia Highway Patrol, who also had graduates. We would also like to thank the instructors of the Philadelphia Highway Patrol Drill Team who hosted the course."
