Newtown Township Police Officer Retires After 28 Year Career

Officer Daniel Clifton began his career with the Yardley Borough Police Department before joining Newtown Township in 1998.

NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA —After 28 years on the beat in Newtown Township, Police Officer Daniel Clifton retired his badge on March 31.

Before joining Newtown Township, Clifton patrolled the streets of Yardley Borough as a member of the Yardley Borough Police Department. He was then hired by former Chief Duffy and joined the Newtown Township Police Department on Feb. 25, 1998.

Throughout his career, Officer Clifton served as a member of the South Central Emergency Response Team (SERT) and on the Newtown-Makefield Truck Enforcement Task Force.

He received commendations, including one for bravery during the arrest of a violent and aggressive subject in 2015 and one for life saving in 2024. He also received countless letters of appreciation and recognition from members of the community and from neighboring police departments.

"Words often used to describe him are patient, respectful, courteous, professional, and kind," said Chief John Hearn. "Officer Dan Clifton was an exemplary member of this department. We thank Dan for his service and wish him a long, happy, and healthy retirement."
