NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — Newtown Township police documented a series of incidents between May 2 and 7, including a suspected drunken driving arrest, fraud reports, a retail theft citation and an investigation tied to a threat received at Council Rock High School North.
On May 2 at about 2:05 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a Ford F250 pick-up truck in the area of the Newtown Bypass and Campus Drive for a vehicle code violation. Police reported that, upon speaking with the driver, an officer detected the odor of alcohol. According to police, the driver was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results.
On May 3 at about 8:15 p.m., police were dispatched to a Wrightstown Township neighborhood for a report of a disorderly man. The man was taken into custody and charged with disorderly conduct.
On May 4, police responded to a threat directed to Council Rock High School North. In an abundance of caution, the school was placed on lockdown while first responders completed a sweep of the building. Police reported that no credible threats were identified and the lockdown was later lifted. Police reported that similar calls were directed to other school districts in Bucks, Montgomery, Chester, Berks and Delaware counties, as well as Philadelphia. The suspected swatting incident remains under investigation by Newtown Township and the FBI.
Police also documented several fraud-related complaints. On May 5 at about 3 p.m., a Wrightstown Township resident reported fraudulent transactions on his credit card. Later that day, at about 8:30 p.m., police were contacted about the theft of a wallet in Newtown Township and subsequent fraudulent purchases. That case was referred to the detective division.
On May 7 at about 2 p.m., a Newtown Township resident reported fraudulent transactions on her credit cards. In both card fraud cases, police documented the incidents and advised the residents to contact their banks, credit card companies and credit bureaus to monitor their accounts.
Also on May 7, at about 4 p.m., police were dispatched to Acme Markets on West Road for a report of retail theft. As a result of the investigation, a woman was cited for retail theft.
