NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP, PA — Newtown Township police reported two suspected DUI arrests, one weapons charge, and two fraud reports between May 8 and 14.
On May 8, at about 8:15 p.m., police conducted a traffic stop on the driver of a Toyota Tacoma in the area of the Newtown Bypass and Penns Trail for a vehicle code violation. According to the police report, an officer detected the odor of alcohol while speaking with the driver. The driver was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results, according to the report.
A second suspected DUI arrest was reported on May 14 at about 10:15 p.m. after police stopped the driver of a Nissan SUV in the area of Sawmill Lane. The report states that an officer detected the odor of alcohol during the stop. The driver was unable to perform field sobriety tests satisfactorily and was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. Charges are pending blood evidence results, according to the report.
Police also reported the arrest of a driver following a traffic stop on May 10 at about 8:15 p.m. in the area of Newtown Gate Drive and Fountain Farm Lane. Officers stopped the driver of a Honda Accord for a vehicle code violation. As a result of the investigation, the driver was taken into custody and charged with a weapons violation.
Two fraud complaints were also reported during the week.
On May 11, at about 7 p.m., a Newtown Township resident reported an incident of fraud after she attempted to purchase a vehicle on Facebook Marketplace, according to the report. Police referred the incident to the detective division.
On May 13, at about 2:30 p.m., another Newtown Township resident reported a check fraud incident. That incident is under investigation, according to the report.
