NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA — There's good news on the horizon for the construction-weary residents and businesses in the South State Street area of Newtown Borough and Newtown Township.
PECO, which began work more than a year ago to install a new gas main along the street, is wrapping up work and later this month, will be milling and repaving the street from Centre Avenue in Newtown Borough to Route 332 in Newtown Township.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced on Thursday that PECO Energy is scheduled to begin road restoration work starting on Friday, July 17.
State Street will be closed and detoured weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Centre Avenue in Newtown Borough to the Newtown Bypass in Newtown Township. The detour is expected to extend from Friday, July 17, through Friday, July 31.
During the closure, drivers will be directed to use Route 332 (Newtown Bypass), Sycamore Street, and Centre Avenue.
Local access will be maintained at all times. Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling near the work area or along the detour route because backups and delays may occur.
PECO Energy will complete the project under a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit.
