NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA — The search for a new borough manager is officially underway.
The borough is now accepting job applications, with a first review beginning today as it looks for a replacement for Greg Totaro, who retired in May as the borough's first full-time manager.
Council President Emily Heinz on Wednesday updated the public on the search process, announcing that the borough has posted the position through the nonprofit Meyner Center, which is assisting with the search.
"The application process is happening right now," said Heinz. "The posting and how to apply is on the borough's website and applications are being accepted."
According to the job posting, the successful candidate will be paid between $120,000 and $160,000 annually. Applications are being reviewed as they are received, with the first review beginning today.
Following Totaro's retirement in May, the borough retained the Meyner Center to assist with the search and recruitment of a new manager. The council also hired an outside accounting firm to handle the borough's finances until it can bring a new manager on board.
In other business at Wednesday's meeting, the council voted unanimously to award this year's road program to Harris Blacktopping at a cost of $81,461.25.
The work will include base repairs on Edgeboro Drive between Jefferson Street and Frost Lane and base repairs, milling, and overlaying of North Congress Street between Greene Street and Washington Avenue.
The council also accepted a proposal from Scot's All-Season for crosswalk painting and the installation of an ADA mat at a cost not to exceed $10,200.
"I'd like to thank the Walk Friendly committee for scouring about town and identifying crosswalks that need to be addressed," said Heinz. "It was a lot of work, and we appreciate the committee for taking the time to do that."
In other news, Heinz announced that this week's council meeting would be the last at the Chancellor Center for the next year and a half due to scheduling conflicts and an extensive renovation project expected to begin later this year and take 12 to 14 months to complete.
Council meetings will be taking place at the Newtown Borough Hall on the third Wednesday at 7 p.m.
