Washington Crossing DAR Opens American History Essay Contest To Students (patch.com) — Students in Newtown and the surrounding area are invited by the Washington Crossing Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution to enter the 2026–27 American History Essay Contest, imagining the first public readings of the Declaration of Independence. Open to grades 5 through 8 in all school settings, the contest aims to deepen historical understanding while sharpening research and writing skills, with local contact information provided for submissions.
   

2. Newtown's Friends Village Returns To The 70s With "The Disco Ball" (patch.com) — Newtown residents are invited to step back into the 1970s at Friends Village's Disco Ball fundraiser on October 10, supporting its senior living community on Dolington Road. The evening will feature food, drinks, dancing, and a disco demo, while honoring three local community builders, including Newtown Borough's first female mayor, Tara Grunde-McLaughlin, for their contributions to the greater Newtown community.
   

3. "Seeing Stella" Exhibit Explores Impact Of Stella Elkins Tyler On Bucks And Beyond (patch.com) — Step onto the Newtown campus of Bucks County Community College to explore an immersive art installation inspired by Stella Elkins Tyler and her historic Newtown estate. Running Sept. 9 through Oct. 17 at the Hicks Art Center Gallery, the free exhibit uses cast glass, sculpture, and design to connect Tyler's local legacy with themes of memory, nature, and cultural change.
   

4. "Eat For Good" Night At PJ Whelihan's To Benefit Newtown EMS (patch.com) — Newtown residents have a chance tonight to support their own EMS squad by dining at P.J. Whelihan's in the Village at Newtown, where 15 percent of sales will be donated with a flyer. The funds will help replace aging lifesaving equipment for Newtown Rescue Squad, which relies on community fundraisers, subscriptions, donations, and local tax dollars.
   

5. Tyler State Park Dam Removal Begins Tuesday (newtownpanow.com) — Work is starting on removing the Spring Garden Dam in Tyler State Park, which sits in Newtown and Northampton townships and will temporarily close nearby paths along Neshaminy Creek. Most park facilities will stay open, but some trail sections and footpaths will be restricted while crews improve safety, restore the creek's natural flow, and enhance fish habitat and recreation.
