NEWTOWN, PA — LaScala's Fire has opened its doors at the busy Village at Newtown shopping center on Eagle Road.

The latest entry into Newtown's ever changing restaurant scene is serving a "reimagined" classic Italian-American menu with a modern twist.

Its menu includes traditional Italian favorites - pizza, pasta and a favorites list of chicken, eggplant and veal dishes - plus something unique for an Italian restaurant - an extensive sushi bar, including rolls and poke bowls.

The restaurant also features a full bar and an extensive selection of cocktails, beer and wine.

"Everything we cook for you is made fresh daily, just like grandmom did," says its website. "To us, it's all about you, your friends, and family having a great time, eating great food, and lots of it, in a comfortable atmosphere with friendly service."

The South Jersey restaurant group, not affiliated with Newtown's LaStalla Restaurant, acquired the space and its liquor license from Ardana, which closed its Greek-influenced restaurant on October 10.

The award-winning LaScala Restaurant Group operates six restaurant concepts in Philadelphia and New Jersey, including LaScala's Fire.

This is LaScala's first "Fire" to open in Bucks County and its eighth in Pennsylvania. Fire can also be found in Upper Dublin, Northeast Philadelphia, Villanova, West Chester, Newtown Square and in Philadelphia.

The business is owned and operated by Rob LaScala whose culinary vision was inspired by his grandparents, Francesco and Tommasina Rocchino, who left Calabria, Italy, for Philadelphia in 1920.

Francesco and Tommasina Rocchino worked incredibly hard, raised a large family, loved their South Philadelphia neighborhood deeply, and never hesitated to lend a hand to fellow immigrants especially during the war.

Over time they built two successful businesses — Rocchino & Sons, a corner deli and grocery store legendary for grandmom's fresh pastas and sandwiches — and a construction company through which Francesco built many of the neighborhood's row houses with great attention to detail and quality.

"My grandparents and their beautiful daughter Rosemary LaScala, my mother, are my inspiration every day," said Rob LaScala who founded the LaScala Group in 1991. "I honor their passion, their integrity, and their drive in all I do."
