NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA — The Newtown Borough Police Department is reminding residents to put safety first as they enjoy the Halloween season, including trick-or-treat night on Saturday.
In a notice posted ahead of the holiday, the department shared a list of steps for children, families, and trick-or-treaters to follow to make the night safer in the borough.
Plan Ahead: Establish a meeting point in case you get separated from your group, and designate a responsible adult to supervise children.
Stay Visible: Wear bright, reflective costumes and add glow sticks or flashlights to increase visibility while walking.
Trick-or-Treat Safely: Only visit well-lit homes, and never enter a home or accept treats from strangers.
Stay on the Sidewalk: Whenever possible, walk on sidewalks and avoid walking in the street. If there are no sidewalks, walk on the edge of the road facing traffic.
Be Aware of Your Surroundings: Keep an eye out for potential hazards, such as uneven sidewalks, dark alleys, and moving vehicles.
Use Crosswalks: When crossing streets, use designated crosswalks.
Charge Your Devices: Make sure your phone and other devices are fully charged in case of an emergency.
Stay in Groups: Trick-or-treat in groups, and look out for one another.
"By following these simple safety tips, you can help ensure a fun and safe Halloween night for everyone in our community," said police. "If you have any concerns or questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to the Newtown Borough Police Department."
