The Newtown tradition of painting store windows for Halloween dates back to the 1950s. The practice lapsed for a while after the turn of the century, but members of the Newtown business community brought it back in 2009.

Hundreds of individuals, families, adult artists, art classes, Brownie and Girl Scout troops and others have participated in the fall tradition since the window painting returned to the street.

The windows bring people to town to enjoy the Halloween scenery and explore the town's many businesses. It also sets the stage for the Newtown Borough Halloween Parade on Saturday, Oct. 28.

As in previous years, artists will also be painting 'Gold Pumpkins for the Cure' to be displayed outside businesses, raising awareness for pediatric cancer."
