Congressional Art Competition Winner From Council Rock North Welcomed At U.S. Capitol

A Council Rock North student who won the Congressional Art Competition in the 8th District was recently welcomed to the U.S. Capitol by Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick.

Shivanand Peri won the competition with his “Portrait of a Friend,” which will hang in the U.S. Capitol for the next year alongside winners from congressional districts across the country.

"Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent throughout the nation and in each congressional district. Winners are recognized in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, DC," according to an announcement from the congressman's office.

More than 650,000 high school students have participated since the competition’s inception in 1982. Students may submit entries to their representative’s office, and panels comprised of district artists select the winning entry.
