NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA — Newtown Fire and Rescue will turn on the taps for its 14th annual Newtown Beerfest on Saturday, Sept. 9 from 12 to 5:30 p.m. at the Stocking Works, 410 South State Street, Newtown.

Billed as the town's premier beer festival, the event will include beer tastings from 50 different breweries, live bands, food and a number of seltzers and wines, all for the benefit of Newtown Fire and Rescue.

“You’re going to have more than 150 different varieties of beer to try. If you’re a beer enthusiast, this is the place for you," said firefighter and Beerfest organizer Tim Kilgore. "There are other beer festivals around, but they don’t have the variety that we have."

Helping to energize this year's Beerfest will be Bucks County’s own Shameless, performing classic rock favorites from groups like YES, Rush, Kansas, Led Zepplin and Genesis, and The Kickbax Trio, a regular at the Sycamore Grill playing dance and rock favorites from yesterday and today.

Adding to the fun will be Philadelphia’s own Ferko String Band, who will be strutting to Philly's unique string band sound.

“We try to make it fresh every year," said Kilgore. "That’s why we brought corn hole in last year and will be offering it again this year. And next year we might have a corn hole tournament or a Beer Olympics.”

Also, new this year will be a 30-foot-by-10-foot sponsorship tent decked out with plants and lights by Holidays Garden Center in Ambler. “There will be a sitting area for anyone who wants to sit and chill,” he said.

C&N Bank will also have a sponsorship booth inside the tent.

Food will be sold by Newtown’s own Clubhouse Bar and Grill on South State Street, La Stalla Restaurant on Swamp Road, and The Temperance House on South State Street. The Clubhouse and the Temp will also be selling two different seltzers at the event.

The Beerfest is the biggest fundraiser of the year for Newtown Fire and Rescue. It uses the funds to purchase fire equipment and apparatus for the station.

“It’s a great reason to come out and support the fire association and have a good time,” said Kilgore. “The variety of beer is going to be outstanding, the food is great and we will have two bands playing. There’s a lot going on. So come out, have a great time, and support the local firefighters.”
