Newtown Borough Grants Permits For Memorial Day Parade, Other Events

The spring and summer schedule includes Memorial Day observances, Movies in the Park and an Open-Air car show.

NEWTOWN BOROUGH, PA — The Newtown Borough Council has granted permits for a number of special events taking place this spring and summer in the borough.

The annual Newtown Memorial Day Parade, organized by American Legion Post 440, will step off on Monday, May 29 at 9 a.m. from the Newtown Business Commons.

At the Newtown Cemetery, the parade will pause for a wreath-laying ceremony at the gravesite of Lt. Morell Smith who died on the battlefield during World War I.

The parade will then march through town pausing at the Veterans Memorial in front of the Newtown Library Company for a wreath-laying ceremony and at the Newtown Borough Hall where official ceremonies and speeches will be held.

The parade will be followed by a vintage baseball game at Pickering Field beginning at 12 p.m. The game is free and open to the public.

Movies in the Park, sponsored by the Newtown Borough Recreation Board, will return to Linton Park in June and July. The movies will be shown, weather permitting, on June 7 and 21 and July 12 from 7 to 10:30 p.m.

Looking ahead, an Open-Air Car Show will be held on State and Greene streets on Sunday, July 23 . The rain date is July 30. The show is presented by the Newtown Business Association.
