In case you missed it, here's a recap of the major news events during the past week in Newtown.

NEWTOWN, PA — In case you missed it, this past week was an eventful one in Newtown with the approval of a settlement agreement that will bring a Wawa to the Bypass and the approval of a major upscale restaurant chain at the Village at Newtown.
On Wednesday, June 14 the Newtown Township Supervisors voted 3-2 to approve a settlement agreement with Provco that will open the door to the construction of a Wawa convenience store and gas station on the Newtown Bypass. Wawa has been trying for decades to break into the Newtown market. It now has its approvals.

At that same meeting, the board of supervisors voted 3-2 to approve a conditional use approval and a liquor license transfer that will allow the Capital Grille to open at the Village at Newtown Shopping Center on Eagle Road. Capital Grille officials said the former Pier One Imports store will undergo a major renovation project that will transform the space into an upscale restaurant, which is expected to open sometime next summer. One of the township supervisors called Capital Grille's choice of Newtown "a feather in the township's cap."

The week also brought a new face to the Newtown Borough Council with the appointment of a new councilor. In a unanimous vote, the council appointed longtime resident Kris Bauman to the open seat. The seat had been held by Amy Lustig who resigned due to a change in work status.
