1 Dead After Fire In Norristown Home

Firefighters were able to extract the victim, who was trapped inside, but they later died.

NORRISTOWN, PA — One person is dead after a fire at a home earlier this week in Norristown.

The incident occurred at around 11 p.m. on Nov. 3 on the 400 block of East Moore Street.

Crews arrived to find heavy fire from the rear of the first floor of the home, they said. Authorities had received reports that a victim was trapped in the home.

Firefighters quickly found the victim, who was treated by Plymouth Community Ambulance. They were taken to Suburban Community Hospital where they later died.

Responders were able to bring the blaze under control quickly with only minor damage to the neighboring door.

Officials said that no working smoke detectors were found inside the home.

"Last night's house fire was a tragic event that has us saddened by the loss of a member of our community," Norristown Municipal Administrator Leonard Lightner said in a statement. "We offer our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. Let us come together to ensure our homes and neighbors' homes have fire safety measures in place and that everyone is educated about the dangers of fire."

Although the fire is being classified as accidental, the specific cause is not yet known.

The Norristown Fire Department, Norristown Police detectives, and Pennsylvania State Police are investigating.
