Bridgeport Man Hurt, 5 Detained After Shooting Incident

One man is in stable condition after a shooting in a quiet Montco neighborhood over the weekend, police said. 5 individuals were detained.

LOWER PROVIDENCE, PA — One man was shot and five people were detained following an incident this weekend a home in a normally quiet neighborhood in the Trooper section of the township, authorities announced on Wednesday.

The incident occurred at around 10:50 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 2 on the 100 block of Hollywood Avenue.

Police arriving at the home said they encountered a chaotic scene with several people outside of the home and yelling.

The victim, Andrew Thompson, 30, of Bridgeport, was shot once, authorities said. Police did not say where he had been shot. He was flown to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia for emergency surgery, and was in stable condition on Wednesday afternoon.

It's not yet clear what led to the shooting. Police on the scene detained five individuals as they "controlled" the area. No charges have been filed and the investigation remains active. Lower Providence Police are leading the case, and it will be referred to the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office, who will determine if any of those individuals will be charged.

No one is presently wanted by police. Lower Providence Police Chief Stan Turtle called it an "isolated event in a normally peaceful neighborhood."

Lower Providence Police were assisted by West Norriton and East Norriton police, Lower Providence Community Ambulance, Lower Providence Fire Department, and PennStar-1 on the scene.
