1 Rescued After Fire At Bridgeport Home

Firefighters battled through blindingly heavy smoke to reach a staircase and rescue a resident who was stranded on the second floor.

BRIDGEPORT, PA — Firefighters battled a blaze at a home in Bridgeport Wednesday.

The incident occurred at around 6:30 p.m. on the 100 block of E. 4th Street.

When crews arrived on the scene, heavy smoke was coming from the first floor, where the fire was also located.

Firefighters battled through blindingly heavy smoke to reach a staircase and rescue a resident who was stranded on the second floor.

Firefighters then helped the resident out a window and down a ladder to safety, officials said.

The fire was extinguished and no other injuries were reported.

Crews cleared the scene by 10 p.m.

Bridgeport Fire Department and Bridgeport Fire Co. No. 1 were joined by units from Upper Merion, Norristown, and Lower Providence on the scene.
