12 Mail-In Ballot Drop Boxes To Be Installed In Montco

Some 110,000 Montgomery County residents have requested mail-in ballots, which started to go out to local voters this week.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Montgomery County will install 12 mail-in ballot drop-off boxes for the 2022 election in an effort to help voters return their ballots on time.

Ballots began to dispersal in the county this week. Some 110,000 residents of the county have requested ballots.

“We want to continue to make voting accessible, secure, and convenient for all of our residents by offering several options to cast their vote – by mail, in person on Election Day or through a satellite office," Montgomery County Commissioner and elections chief Ken Lawrence said Tuesday.

Ballots are received by Voter Services they day they are dropped off at the boxes.

Drop-off boxes have been a fixture in Montgomery County elections since the 2020 primaries, when the pandemic led to a huge spike in the number of individuals voting by mail. It's been used by many in ensuing elections as a convenience. But it continues to be a point of controversy from Republicans skeptical of election integrity.

The deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot is 5 p.m. on Nov. 1. The deadline to return mail-in ballots in person varies by location, but is 8 p.m. on Election Day at the latest.

Voters should make sure their ballots are placed inside the smaller secrecy envelope before they put it inside the official return evenlope. Ballots without both envelopes are not legal.
