16 Norristown Businesses Close Thursday For Day Without Immigrants: Report

NORRISTOWN, PA -- Across the nation Thursday, businesses are closing their doors to show the impact on the U.S. economy made by immigrants and their families, and Montgomery County played a significant role.

The idea for the protest day sprung up in opposition to the presidency of Donald Trump, his recent and now-suspended executive order restricting immigration from seven Muslim-majority countries, his campaign rhetoric and pledges regarding immigration, as well as the recent uptick in raids from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.

In Norristown, the protest hit especially hard. A total of 16 businesses have reported that they are shut down for the day. The Pottstown Mercury reports that the following local establishments are participating in the protest:

• Taqueria México Lindo Tacos el Tata, 500 W Main St, Norristown
• Reyes Tires, Swede Square Shopping Center
• Colettis Bar de Nico Campos (Coletti’s Bar), 345 W Marshall St
• Novedades Marisol, 403 W Marshall St, Norristown
• Tienda y Carniceria Barajas, 506 W Marshall St., Norristown
• Los Potrillos Mexican Store and Restaurant, 354 W Elm St, Norristown
