UPPER MERION, PA — Three teenagers were arrested after police said they recklessly sped a stolen car through an Upper Merion neighborhood last week before crashing it and fleeing from officers.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, Jan. 28 at 2 p.m. near the intersection of Kingwood and Forge roads.

The teens including a 16-year-old boy, a 17-year-old girl, and a 13-year-old girl, were not the original thieves of the blue Kia Soul, police said.

The teens drove across a lawn then stopped on the 100 block of Forge Road and fled on foot, police said. The girls were quickly caught, while the boy, who was driving, continued to run.

Police eventually tracked him to the Bank of America on 625 West Dekalb Pike, where he jumped over a fence out of a yard, and then into another backyard on the 500 block of Powderhorn Road where officers finally captured him, police said.

The Kia had a damaged steering column and broken ignition, and had been stolen from Norristown earlier in the day on Jan. 28.

The teens were charged with receiving stolen property and related counts and were released to their parents to await Juvenile Court proceedings.
