44 Hospitals In PA Recognized For Patient Safety, Experience

Healthgrades released a list of hospitals that were awarded for patient safety and patient experience, and many local hospitals did well.

A total of 44 hospitals in Pennsylvania were recognized by Healthgrades as excelling in at least one of two award categories. The 2019 awards recognized hospitals for patient safety and patient experience.

It comes just days after Leapfrog issued their biannual rankings of hospital safety.

In a press release, Healthgrades said the awards “recognize the hospitals around the country that make patient safety a top priority and provide an outstanding patient experience.” Overall, 460 hospitals in the United States achieved the Healthgrades “Patient Safety Excellence Award” and 434 hospitals achieved the “Outstanding Patient Experience Award.”

In Pennsylvania, 27 hospitals achieved the patient safety award and 17 hospitals achieved the patient experience award. A total of 10 received both.

Healthgrades says the hospitals that achieved the patient safety award are among the top 10 percent of all short-term acute hospitals that report patient safety data. By Healthgrades’ estimate, nearly 128,000 patient safety incidents could have been avoided if all hospitals performed similarly to the ones recognized for safety.
