Various sophisticated techniques are being employed by scammers to quickly take cash from local residents, police say.
Police say that PECO's recent system upgrades are being manipulated by scammers who have been able to confuse customers into making immediate payments.

"These scammers are contacting PECO customers and falsely claiming their electric or natural gas service will be disconnected unless payment is made immediately," PECO said in a statement, noting that they never demand immediate payments.
Customers are reminded to never give out their account or billing information to an unverified person.
