Montgomery Co. 9/11 Memorial Moved To New Location, Rededicated

NORRISTOWN, PA — Montgomery County's iconic September 11th memorial now has a new home.

Last week, the county moved the memorial from its old location at the emergency services center Eagleville to Elmwood Park in Norristown.

The move was inspired by a desire to make it more publicly accessible. Officials also took the opportunity to rededicate the monument.

"We gathered to honor them, reflect on the lives forever changed, and remember the first responders and everyday people who answered the call," officials said.

The 18-foot monument was commissioned by the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners in 2003. Sculptor Sassana Norton constructed it with an I-beam from the North Tower of the World Trade Center.

It was officially erected at the Montgomery County Courthouse in Sept. 2005, and then moved to Eagleville in 2021 when construction began on the new courthouse.

The procession of the memorial to its new home was public and featured members and volunteers from more than a dozen construction firms with the Philadelphia Building Trades. They were accompanied by a motorcycle escort and law enforcement from around the county.
