Rock Star, Iconic Figure In Music Scene Killed In King Of Prussia Crash

KING OF PRUSSIA, PA — Kaelin McIntyre, the former lead vocalist of the Lansdale-based band CDC and a prominent icon of the hardcore rock scene, was killed in a crash in King of Prussia last week.

McIntyre was riding his Harley Davidson at around 5:40 p.m. on Sept. 9 when he was struck by a car making a left hand turn, according to a GoFundMe launched to support his family.

Riding his motorcycle was McIntyre's great passion in life along with music, and friends noted that he died doing what he loved.

"It's rare to meet someone who has never met a stranger and can make an entire room light up, but Kaelin McIntyre was one of those people," McIntyre's friend Katherine Potter wrote in the fundraiser.

The local man described as "larger than life" by his CDC bandmates became their lead singer in 2005. For the next eight years, they traveled across the country and around the world together on tour, with destinations ranging from California and Europe to South Africa, Japan, Madagascar, and north Philly.

"We were a young, disorganized band just trying to play shows, see new things, while having no idea what we were doing," the band shared in a recent tribute to McIntyre. "We all grew up together on the road; ripping gigs, driving and flying countless miles, and making life long memories most people can't even fathom. We saw the world, met amazing people, and ate awesome food, even though his was always 'plain.'"

After his time in CDC McIntyre continued a career in music, working as a promoter for a wide variety of acts.

McIntyre's final few days were spent in a series of epic motorcycle rides. On Sept. 6, he returned from a long weekend road trip from Pennsylvania to Virginia, including a ride along the legendary Blue Ridge Parkway.

"I (didn't) get many videos this weekend because I was too busy keeping the bike rolling and enjoying the scenery," he wrote on social media.

McIntyre's final Facebook post on Sept. 8 eulogized the late Andy Williams of the band "Every Time I Die," sharing their famous lyric: "What I need is a cigarette, no more prayers."

A celebration of life for friends and family of McIntyre will be held on Sept. 27 at Gael and Co in Port Richmond, McIntyre's favorite establishment.

The GoFundMe will support McIntyre's best friend and mother, Denise. Nearly $60,000 had been raised as of Wednesday.
