Authorities said Fernandez knew the documents were fake and still sold them.

Circumstances surrounding the sales were not made clear by authorities.

"Selling fake identification documents is a serious crime that threatens our national security and puts all of us at risk," U.S. Attorney David Metcalf said in a statement "My office will prosecute to the fullest extent anyone putting these fraudulent IDs into circulation."

The U.S. Attorney did not say when Fernandez had entered the country.

He faces up to 60 years behind bars if convicted.
