EAST NORRITON, PA — A man who struck and killed a pedestrian in East Norriton before fleeing the scene in September has been arrested, authorities said.
Andy Nunez Vasquez, 43, of Philadelphia, faces numerous charges in the death of Ricardo Baptiste, 29, of
Drexel Hill, the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office announced.
The incident occurred on Sept. 6 at around 9:10 p.m. near the intersection of Germantown Pike and Whitehall Road.
Baptiste was crossing the roadway when Vazquez struck him and then sped away, police said.
The impact knocked Baptiste into the path of an incoming tractor trailer, which ran him over again, according to authorities.
First responders found Baptiste unresponsive in the roadway and took him to Jefferson Einstein Montgomery Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators said they used video surveillance, license plate readers, and PennDOT records to connect the 2015 Hyundai Sonata in the crash to Vazquez.
Vazquez was charged with accidents involving death or injury, failure to step and render aid, failure to report an accident, and related counts. He faces a mandatory minimum of three years in prison and $2,500 fine if convicted of leaving the scene.
He was arraigned on Oct. 20 and released on 10 percent of $20,000 bail, on the condition that he surrender his passport.
A preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 2 before Magisterial District Judge Marc A. Alfarano.
