NORRISTOWN, PA — Voter turnout was down notably in Montgomery County in the 2026 election, with the lowest turnout for a midterm election year since 2014.

According to the county Board of Elections, 392,630 ballots were cast for this year's midterms, a turnout of roughly 62.49 percent of registered voters in the county.

2022 saw a 68.4 percent turnout, and 2018 saw a 67.5 percent turnout. Around 23,000 less people cast ballots in the county this year than four years ago, despite the number of registered voters growing by around 21,000.

This is despite the fact that preliminary estimates have voter turnout increasing slightly around the nation over 2022, according to the University of Florida's Election Lab.

Still, even as they've dropped, those numbers are among the best in the state and competitive nationwide.

The county has not commented on the lower numbers. Most Democratic leadership is celebrating the sweeping victories in the county and across the state that flipped four U.S. Congressional seats blue, as well as the state senate.

"Thank you to everyone who voted and to all the election workers and volunteers who kept the process running smoothly throughout the day," the county shared in the early morning hours Wednesday. "And while the polls are closed, the work isn't over. Our election team will continue working to carefully count provisional and military ballots, then tabulate and submit the official results for certification in the days and weeks ahead."

Municipalities with the highest voter turnout were Bryn Athyn (73 percent), Narberth (71 percent), Franconia (69 percent), and Jenkintown (69 percent).

Whitpain's 5th precinct led all county precincts with a stunning 97 percent turnout.
