Armed Teen In Stands Cuts HS Football Game Short In Montco: Police

A massive police presence descended on the stadium as the game was cut short at halftime.

ABINGTON, PA — A teenager was arrested at a Montgomery County high school football game last week after police found him with a loaded gun inside the stadium. The incident brought a large police presence down on the area and caused the game to be cut short.

It occurred on Friday, Aug. 25 at around 8:26 p.m. at Abington High School during the Ghosts matchup against Cheltenham.

Parents called police after spotting the weapon, and police quickly found the suspect, later found to be a Cheltenham High School student, when they noticed the weapon sticking out of his waistband, authorities said.

A second gun was also found him after police searched him, they said.

The game was suspended at halftime "out of an abundance of caution."

The teen was charged with felony weapons offenses and taken to the Montgomery County Juvenile Center.

Police said they would work closely with Abington School Distirct on the investigation.

A preliminary hearing is forthcoming.
