Authorities Warn Of Kidnapping Scam In Norristown
Callers pretend to have kidnapped a family member and threaten harm if money isn't turned over.

A kidnapping scam where a caller pretends to have kidnapped a victim’s family member is spreading across Norristown, police said Thursday.
There have been “several” scams where a caller asks for large sums of money and threatens harm to the family member if it isn’t turned over, according to police.
Police are urging Norristown residents to never give out any information over the phone.

“If someone calls stating that they have your relative, it is a scam if they do not know personal info (name etc) of the alleged person they are supposed to be holding,” police said.
Police believe most of the calls are random or picked out of the white pages.
