Bring Light to the Darkness of Cancer

LLS's Light The Night® funds research to find cures and ensure access to treatments for all blood cancer patients.

On Saturday, October 7, 2017, friends, families, children of all ages, and co-workers will come together for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Light The Night® event at Central Park in Doylestown, PA.

Light The Night is an inspirational and memorable evening. During the two mile leisurely walk, participants carry illuminated lanterns – white for survivors, red for supporters, and gold in memory of loved ones lost to cancers. Thousands of walkers will form a community of support, care, and love, bringing light into the dark world of cancer.

Jenn Pacificio of Montgomery County will walk with her team, Jen’s CURErageous Crew, made up of her friends and family. Pacificio was diagnosed two years ago with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Shortly after diagnosis, Pacificio learned that she was pregnant. What should have been an exciting time, turned into a scary decision and now Pacificio was fighting, not just for herself, but for her baby.

Pacificio and her husband went to the Penn Medicine and met with Dr. Sunita Nasta, who gave them the hope they needed. The doctor told them that treatment was possible while safely continuing with the pregnancy. After eight weeks of undergoing treatment, Pacificio gave birth to a healthy baby girl named Charlotte. A few weeks later, she had her first PET scan and was declared in complete metabolic remission.

“Throughout my journey, I met some of the most wonderful people and those individuals helped me through the worst time of my life,” said Pacifico. “I learned that you can find joy during your most difficult times.”

There is no fundraising minimum to participate in Light The Night, but every walker is encouraged to become a Champion For Cures by raising $100 or more. Nationally, participants raise an average of $300.

“Light The Night gives hope to patients and their families and lets them know that they are not alone in their battle against cancer,” said Ellen Rubesin, LLS Executive Director. “It is a night to pay tribute to lives touched by cancer, honor those we have lost, and celebrate the lives that have been saved.”
