Cirque Du Soleil Opens In Montgomery County Next Month

OAKS, PA — With just over a month remaining before Cirque du Soleil hits Montgomery County, performers from the world-renown acrobatic production will be at several Philadelphia-area landmarks to "warm up" the region for the coming event.

Performances from unicycle duo Philippe Belanger and Marie-Lee Guilbert will be held on Tuesday, June 5, on the following schedule:

• 1:15 p.m. – Art Musuem Steps
• 1:45 p.m. - Love Park
• 2 p.m. - City Hall/Dilworth Park
• 2:45 p.m. - Independence Hall Park

The world-renown acrobatic production will arrive in the fields near the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks on July 12. They will be in town through Aug. 5, performing in a massive tent capable of holding up to 2,500 spectators.

Tickets for the show went on sale for "Cirque Club" this winter and start at $49 a pop (become a member here). Tickets for the general public went on a sale until March 9 and can be purchased here.

Volta, the latest touring show of Cirque du Soleil, is themed around extreme sports, according to organizers. Acts include parkour, rope skipping, roller skating, contemporary dance, use of bungees, batons, acrobatic ladders, unicycles, and much more.

The theme of the show is described by its creators as follows:

"WAZ, a popular gameshow host, has lost touch with his inner self in the pursuit of fame. But as doubt sets in, WAZ is enlightened by childhood memories as he encounters FREE SPIRITS who open doors to his inner soul he has long kept shut. On his high-voltage search for meaning, will WAZ find the courage to relinquish his fame, reconnect with his true self, and shine bright?"

Volta marks the 41st show organized by Cirque du Soleil. It launched in Montreal in April 2017. Bastien Alexandre is the writer and director of the show, while Jean Guibert is the director of creation. Anthony Gonzalez is the musical director and composer, which has a "space-age future pop sound," according to organizers.

Cirque du Soleil has been operating since 1984. Their big top, arena, and circus shows are performed around the world.
