Citing Extreme Heat, Montco Declares Another Code Red

The heat index is once again expected to break 100, as the National Weather Service also issued a heat advisory.

NORRISTOWN, PA — A brutal stretch of summer weather is slated to continue this week in Montgomery County, and local officials are warning residents of potential dangers.

The heat index is once again expected to break 100, as the county issued a Code Red declaration and the National Weather Service issued a heat advisory Monday.

The Code Red will be in place from noon Monday to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 13.

Residents are urged to check on the most vulnerable residents, particularly those with severe medical conditions.

The county has services available to the public, specifically to those vulnerable residents who are most at-risk, including the elderly, young children, and the homeless. If you need emergency shelter, call the Your Way Home Call Center at 2-1-1, or text your zip code to 898-211.

Health officials have the following advice for residents to weather the weather:

  • Drink plenty of non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated beverages.
  • Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.
  • If at all possible, try to get outdoor work completed in the morning to avoid the warmest part of the day.
  • Keep windows and interior doors open when running a fan at home.
  • Keep cool by seeking an air-conditioned building, such as a mall, library, or senior center if available. If not, seek rest in the shade
