Both sides have said they want to negotiate a new contract and return teachers to their classrooms as soon as possible, but they appear to remain deadlocked over the details of that contract.

According to the school district, the strike cannot last longer than 15 school days under guidelines established by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. That would mean that teachers would have to return to work by Oct. 12, at the latest.
The school district had already been scheduled to be closed this Thursday and Friday for a holiday and in-service, so the next day that the strike could potentially impact is next Monday.
