Code Blue Emergency Declared Overnight In Montgomery County

Frigid temperatures are descending on the region, which prompted Montgomery County officials to declare a Code Blue emergency overnight.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — With frigid temperatures coming in the forecast, Montgomery County has declared a Code Blue Cold Weather Emergency.

The Code Blue starts at 9 p.m. Friday and ends at 9 a.m. Saturday. During this time, either the temperature or the wind chill is expected to be below 20 degrees Fahrenheit, officials said.

Authorities urge residents to check on neighbors, the elderly, and anyone they know of who may be exposed to the elements.

The county offers the following tips for extreme cold weather situations:

  • Check on elderly friends and neighbors and those most at risk
  • Make sure your car is winterized with antifreeze, a full tank of gas, properly inflated tires, and is stocked with an emergency kit
  • Check your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors
  • Wear appropriate clothing and avoid prolonged exposure when going outdoors in winter weather
  • Limit pets' time outdoors during extreme temperatures
