Temperatures are heading into the upper 90s in Montgomery County this weekend. Be safe.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Temperatures are heading into the upper 90s in Montgomery County this weekend, and the Montgomery County Health Department has declared a "Code Red" Hot Weather Emergency. It's the first such declaration of the year.
The emergency is in place from noon on Saturday, June 30 to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, July 3.
Highs in the upper 90s over the next several days, coupled with high humidity, are expected to combine for a horrid heat index that could exceed 100 degrees.

Very young children, the elderly, and those with chronic medical conditions are especially at risk. Officials urge residents to check on their friends and neighbors if they believe they may be at risk.
County officials offer the following tips to residents to help beat the heat:

- Drink plenty of non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated fluids.
- Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.
- If at all possible, try to get outdoor work completed during the morning to avoid the warmest part of the
- day.
- Keep windows and interior doors open when running a fan at home.
- Keep cool by seeking an air-conditioned building if available, if not, seek rest in the shade.
- Most of the Senior Adult Activity Centers (SAACs) are air-conditioned, as are malls and libraries.
