Code Red Warning Declared In Montco As Dangerous Heat Returns

With temperatures again soaring into the mid-90s this week, a health warning has again been issued for Montgomery County.

NORRISTOWN, PA — With temperatures again soaring into the mid-90s this week, a health warning has again been issued for Montgomery County.

The warning will be in place from noon on Tuesday, Sept. 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5.

Code Red is declared when a heat index of 100 degrees or higher is possible. It's the second time in the past two weeks that a warning has been issued in the county, following last week's heat wave.

Things are expected to cool down by the end of the week, with rain, again, bringing some needed relief.

Very young children, the elderly, and those with chronic medical conditions are especially at risk. Officials urge residents to check on their friends and neighbors if they believe they may be at risk.

County officials offer the following tips to residents to help beat the heat:

  • Drink plenty of non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated fluids.
  • Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.
  • If at all possible, try to get outdoor work completed during the morning to avoid the warmest part of the
  • day.
  • Keep windows and interior doors open when running a fan at home.
  • Keep cool by seeking an air-conditioned building if available, if not, seek rest in the shade.
  • Most of the Senior Adult Activity Centers (SAACs) are air-conditioned, as are malls and libraries.
